Christmas Celebrators: Let’s Talk Stockings

November 29th, 2006 by Megin Hatch · 7 Comments

xmas-ball.jpgLots of holiday talk throughout the blogosphere! I thought it might be fun to work together to make a list of the things that Santa has put in stockings for your tykes. Isn’t it so cool how Santa does different things for different families? I love that. You know on Christmas Eve at our house Santa gets a cookie and a beer?

I’ll start (these weren’t all at once, but over the years):

1. Toothbrush
2. cards
3. chocolate
4. writing implements (crayons, markers, pencils, pens)
5. spinning tops
6. toy baby bottles
7. baby diapers
8. silly putty
9. hair do-dads
10. slinky
11. bubble gum (real deal- with sugar!!)
12. candy canes
13. an orange (tradition) or if we forgot then occasionally a clemintine or other fruit
14. lottery tickets
15. undies
16. “fun” utensils
17. a christmas ornament

Your turn!!

As part of my family celebrates Christmas, my favorite part is waiting until the last minute to shop for extra stocking stuffers. Obviously, I buy the main stuff early. But there is nothing more fun than a run to the local drug store on the 23rd or so, running up and down the isles with your family, filling baskets with bubble gum and samples of hand lotion and hot wheel cars.

The tradition in my family growing up was to have both an orange and an apple. My mom said that’s what my grandmother did. Your post reminded me that I need to carry this forward for my daughter.

I agree with Stu Mark: stocking stuffers do best with serendipity! I’ve found some socks this year that are colored to look like ballet slippers.
